I have a similar issue with pptpd talking to pppd. The setup I have was stable
before the upgrade. Now this happens:

I got the same problem as the reporter... Since there was no update to
sasl2-bin, how was this bug resoled?

No, there are separate packages för BIND 8. (All BIND users should
upgrade to version 9 anyway.)
All new versions are published at isc.org.
