I misread the error message when I encountered the bug and so
I didn't notice the specific instructions given as a workaround.
I believe the rest of the post is valid.

Package: encfs
Version: 1.4.2-2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software
Hi
The current unstable version of encfs causes rdiff-backup to break when the
remote volume is encfs. The cause appears to be that the latest version of
encfs does not follow the specifications for the g
eport. If the bug is the same for the two
kernels, then it seems to me that #495098 should be merged with this
one.
Thanks
Regards,
Orion
