I'm talking to László about this because it seems to be connected to the

Agreed! I noticed that too right after I uploaded. I made a fixed

The default use of OpenJDK 17 causes bazel-bootstrap to FTBFS. This is an

possible.

Thank you for the bug report! I am able to replicate this locally. It
looks like this was caused by a recent upload of opencensus-java that
removed two symbols. I am working on an upload of an updated grpc-java
package that no longer requires those symbols.
-Olek
Ah, ok. Good to know and that makes sense. Thanks to you both. I'm still a
bit new to this autopkgtest thing but it seems worthwhile to get it figured
out. I'll add build-essential explicitly since none of the other build
dependencies should be necessary to compile the test.

y with Bazel [1] recently that I just don't
have the time to work through this right now. But I'm keeping this email
flagged for follow-up because I would definitely like to implement a
visibility patch in the future. It looks like it will make the symbols file
MUCH more manageable! Thanks
seems to be the most likely reason for this failure. I assumed that
all packages (e.g. build-essential) that we assume to be present for
packaging would be present here as well. Is that not the case? If so, this
will likely be a very easy fix.

If you have no objections, I would like to transfer this

take over maintaining it. Please let me know if you have any concerns!

een so much of a headache (both with this package and a
couple other C++ libraries I maintain) that I'm considering just erasing
all the symbols files and being done with it.
Any advice on this? I really want to do what's "right" and what's best for
this package and the greater Debian infrastructure but I wonder if
insisting on shipping symbols files is actually doing more harm than good.
(e.g. I'm sure the buildds don't appreciate the extra load...)
