Updated from old-stable and followed the instructions.
Now gnome-authenticator works as expected, including the previous
crashing when pressing the '+', 'providers' and 'preference' buttons.

Additional link to upstream, discussing what happens to the database
when upgrading from 3.32 to 4.x
https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/Authenticator/-/issues/385
Package: gnome-authenticator
Version: 4.5.0-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Hi,
Upgrading from the oldstable (3.32 version) to unstable breaks the
application:
* previously registered accounts/tokens have disappeared
* clicking on the '+', 'preferences' and 'providers'
Indeed, 13.11~betav6-1 fglrx-modules-dkms does not compile, but it seems
possible to work around it if we recompile the kernel ourselves with
iommu_intel or iommu_amd flags. Is there a possible fix for this for the
stock kernels?
I can confirm the offending line being the following:
/var/lib/d
I confirm the bug on jessie.
