The XMMS2 build system uses the system default ruby to get its
compiler flags for the ruby bindings. This can be overridden by
setting the RUBY environment to point to another executable. Just
verified this and Ruby 1.9.1 builds
you use XMMS2 over a unix socket. But if you would like to
contribute a paragraph to the man page, patches are accepted.

If you use the bundled version of SCons to build the project the
problem will go away I think. Missing git has nothing to do with the
problem.
That is.. build with ./scons, instead of the system wide SCons.
