I have the same problem with current (11.05.2009) Debian Sid. My xserver
just hangs after restarting dbus, It is realy annoying bug, because some
updates installed via apt-get upgrade has to restart d-bus, so I have to
do apt-get upgrade from console with killed Xorg.

Further experimentation shows that if I load
/usr/share/emacs21/site-lisp/vm/vm.el by hand then M-x vm works.
I still can't figure out why emacs21 can't do this by itself, but most
other lisp seems to be working, so I think it's a problem with the vm

xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.7.99.1-1 (experimental), and

I've also been hit by the same problem. I'm starting my X session
using a simple startx. It crashes with a segfault. If I remove
use-session-dbus from the /etc/X11/Xsession.options file, everything
works fine. It did not happen before I upgraded dbus this morning. What
is funny, though
