The attached patch fixes the dependency parse error by adding a comma
between ${shlibs:Depends} and ${misc:Depends}, both of which are
replaced by the empty string, resulting in a field containing a single
space.
It also fixes the misspelling of the Recommends field name.

source code is using the ancient MySQL 3.23 interface and
libmysqlclient10.

Unless you object, I intend to upload an NMU for python2.3 tomorrow to fix the
broken Build-Depends (and I'll include the fix for #339998 as requested).
I'd also like to do python2.2 and python2.1 at the same time, which have the
same problem.
