does not.
If you do not copy the stage* files then they will be incompatible with
the boot sector that is installed.

I saw you used grub shell for installation but the recommended way to
install is using grub-install. Are you able to reproduze it using
grub-install?
I'm not able to reproduze your problem and then is dificult to me to
