When you click on "maximize" button the window continues on the same size and
the lateral borders simply disappear.
And when you click on "restore" button, borders come back. The only way to use
the program is
resizing the window manuall
I'm just using Gnome with Metacity in Debian Lenny, no Compiz Fusion or
anything else.

the right or left side the
window is maximized normally. When you move panel for initial position,
the maximize button don't work again and borders disappear. Add another
panel for xfce and try to reproduce.
