even with no desktop I get no speech? That command worked just fine and
now everything works fine. Would making another virtual machine and
installing no desktop environment and seeing if this issue appears again

Hi, That worked orca and espeakup are now talking normally. Is there a
way to find out why this was setup on my newly installed virtual
machine? Even without a desktop installed as I did a test virtual

sudo -u lightdm bash -c 'XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/run/user/$UID pa-info'

Hi, It sounds like static like what happens if you play a file between
different byte orders. I also tried arecord with no sound when I tried
to play it back and pulseaudio is running this system I just chose the
defaults with the ssh server so I could login and no orca login screen
speaks. T

Hi, I am not sure if any desktop login screen is active as no sound is
played just the boot beep from vmware player. After the system boots I
just login using ssh to check if things are running and this is how I
found that espeakup and pulseaudio are running. If anyone has a windows
