This issue has been resolved for me in "testing".
This is how I resolved it without being able to start a gnome session:
1. Use GRUB to boot into recovery mode under advanced
2. Login to root when password is asked for
3. Run "ifup -all"
4. Run "dhclient"
5. Run "apt update"
6. Run "apt dist-upgra

> 3/ sudo apt install gir1.2-gnomedesktop-3.0=3.30.2.1-2
> 4/ sudo apt-mark hold gir1.2-gnomedesktop-3.0

I have been bitten by this one. Severely : one of my systems won't get
to the Gnome login screen and stays on a black screen (with an (active)
mouse pointer).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. The problem is that
gnome-desktop3 3.34 migrated to Testing before gnome-shell 3.34 did.
gnome-desktop3 should have had a Breaks against older versions of
gnome-shell.
