thanks Yarik for looking into this. Unless there is a bug it's perfectly possible to run the mne-python tests withing mayavi. All tests that require mayavi are decorated to be skipped if mayavi is not installed. See: https://github.com/mne-tools/mne-python/blob/master/mne/viz/tests/test_3d.py#L33
