expat license, but the MIT variety used is the expat. So if you had
something that used the expat license, then just choosing mit will do it.
But, that's not working somehow?

MIT is vague since there are multiple variants of the MIT license, one
of them is usually referred to as the Expat license (and that's also
what /usr/share/debhelper/dh_make/licenses/mit contains).
