Two years later... This is finally done!
In the end, refactoring my changes to SimpleIni.h into a new local
file allowed using SimpleIni as is, without modifications... Yay!
Fixed upstream with [1].

Thanks for your reply. If you'll need any changes in the library,
please tell me and I'll happy to accept them, since the upstream does
not provide an official ABI either.

used a somewhat modified version of the library, so it might be no
trivial; but it's worth trying.
