While your patch is not yet implemented, I fixed the problem on my system by
setting up a symbolic link as follows.
#mkdir /usr/lib/notify-osd
#ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/notify-osd /usr/lib/notify-osd/notify-osd
