I stumbled upon this bug and it took us about a week of debugging with systemd
maintainers
(thank you very much all of you, particularly michich and kabi_) to figure out
the culprit

first of all thanks for the fix. I ran into that bug with systemd as
well but just found out by accident what has been the cause. I installed
your fixed version manually and it seems to work fine.
I would like to ask you to retry getting the fixed version into the
stable-proposed-updates
