Apparently I misunderstood the policy.
So I have uploaded the patch (or rather very similar one) to svn.
I removed the bit that changes the Uploaders field. I will leave it to the
maintainer to decide if they want to make that change or not.

Attached is a patch to fix this.
It also removes myself from the uploaders list.
I have *no* plans to upload this to Debian. Apparently I upset people when
I fix bugs in this particular package :-(.
