After a litte digging in the BTS, I just found that the option I was using in
.aptitude/config was WRONG, and I should use another option to not install the
Recommends packages. Now, the upgrade of kernel-package seems fine:
# aptitude upgrade

Yes, kernel-package did indeed add a depends relationship, since
it is required while building the documentation related packages. If
xmlto is not present, amke-kpkg ... buildpackage fails.
