The hanging can be caused by many things.
1. Try adding "nomodeset" to the boot command line. It may be a graphics driver
issue - notable with Nvidia based systems and the nouveau default driver.
2. If you have multiple graphics cards (more relevent to desktop) such as an

I have the same problem, each time I try to boot into debian it stuck at
"loading initial ramdisk", then I go with Ctrl+Alt+Del and it boot properly.
I have this problem on an Intel NUC D54250WYK.
I have an SSD mSATA with just an EFI partition and a Btrfs partition.
