I had the same problem upgrading from 2.00-22 to 2.02~beta2-5. I am using LVM and UEFI in that computer, and I think that the problem is related to UEFI. I solved this using some recent version of debian testing installer from an USB drive and in the rescue mode: 'dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi-amd64'.

I had the same issue, and I succeeded to recover by using a live cd and a chroot environment. In the chroot environment I reinstalled grub with : grub-install --removable It updates the file in EFI/boot/ instead of EFI/debian. I hope it will help. Vincent
