thank you for your patch.
however, in two cases the patch is incorrect since the existing command
does more then the 'simplified' version you propose.
then, one more has gone entirely and is not needed anymore, and finally,
the other two i prefer to use the 'long one' for bet

whenever is possible in the scripts shipped with git-stuff. This avoids
calling of external commands (echo, basename, cut, and awk) and should
