I think it would be a good idea to have this fixed for Jessie as well.
The actual patch is a one-liner and I'm a bit surprised that it hasn't
already been fixed as this basically means users installing aweso

Hope all is well!
While installing a new system, I found that I wasn't able to
log into Awesome via GDM3. It seems there might have been a
typo in your desktop entry.
I've attached a patch that hopefully helps
