Since the server seems to be involved in some way, I send my mpd config
file. I'd say the interesting parts are that I run mpd as myself, and
have it listen only on a Unix socket. I also have the music directory
on a remote host (mounted with sshfs), but that should be less relevant.

Setting mpd_communication_mode to "polling" in the config file works
around it.

Starting with this update, when I hit the 'y' key (which toggles single
track mode), the mode seems to be changed correctly and I get a message
in the echo area on the bottom, but the [s] indicator on top is
sometimes not updated.
