Just noticed in the stand-alone info reader the text, "Tags out of Date"
in the mode line when viewing the gnus node.
This made me think that running aptitude reinstall emacs emacs23 info
might be worth a try. But it wasn't.

I fired up `M-x info' for the first time in a long while, but got the
error, "Can't find the Info directory node." This problem persists with
`emacs -Q'. I've appended a stack trace.
Info-directory-list contains:
