I confirm that this bug still exists in version 1.3.7-4 (on wheezy) ;
the patch given by Vlad Orlov is very simple and solve the problem.
Could you please commit the fix.

I installed a fresh Wheezy with Xfce and I have pretty much the same
symptoms.

Starting from console:
$ /usr/bin/system-config-printer-applet --debug
checking for jobs
...then even if nothing is sent to the printer:
Starting job applet
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Se

The /usr/share/dbus-1 directory seems to be ignored by the debian/install file.
So these files are skipped when you build the package from source:
/usr/share/dbus-1/interfaces/org.fedoraproject.Config.Printing.xml
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.fedoraproject.Config.Printing.service

I'm also facing this bug with XFCE Desktop.
Not a major one, but still annoying when one wants to easily track
printing jobs status.
