Since drill works fine when explicitely instructed to use IPv6, I
assumed it was a Debian compilation with the wrong compile-time
options.

ignores it and goes to the first IPv4 line.
You have to force IPv6 usage with -6. Inconsistent with dig and not
conformant to resolv.conf(5).
