Since a while ago (version 7 at least) I can't get the GNOME 3 system
proxy settings to work in Iceweasel.
Removing the ~/.mozilla directory, or running it in safe mode or with
MOZILLA_DISABLE_PLUGINS=1 does not help. I have to use the manual
