I really have to admit that patching

Please stay on the topic of this bug. ntp is not going away - can we please see this fix migrated
into testing?
I have tried the fix provided by Alexandre Detiste above and it appears to
work(jessie).

Dear Maintainer,
We are using saltstack to deploy our debian servers, during which we also have
a formula that installs ntp on all systems, enables it and checks if it needs a
restart due to changes in configuration files.

Hi Jordi,
I believe that the goal of this bug report is to make the NTP package better;
not to ditch
Hi,
to complete the configuration of systemd-timesyncd.service we must
edit
/etc/systemd/tymesyncd.conf
and enable some servers,

My previous answer is very radical for them that are accustomed
to ntpd, so following is included a configuration of ntp that seems has
worked well for me:
Sorry,

Hi,
Another optional way to go is consider that systemd already includes his
own timesync service,
therefore may be better disable or unistall ntp and use
systemd-timesyncd.
We can do the following:
ln -s /dev/null /lib/systemd/system/npt.service
or
apt-get remove --purge ntp
mkdir -p /lib/sys
Hi,
Here is a revised systemd service file.
I only added a single line "EnvironmentFile=-/etc/default/ntp".
This sources the environment variables in this file
(now only $NTPD_OPTS), only if it exists.
For the "RUNASUSER", it is indeed better to copy & modify the service in
/etc/systemd/system
Hi,
For some reason, I did not receive your email, so please excuse the long delay.
Maybe you could check the logfile of your server and could send me the
appropriate lines telling that the mail was delivered at our server? I can’t
find any trace of it in my logs :-/.
There’s news on the NTP upst

Hello,
I created a systemd service file for ntp.
systemd is a sysvinit replacement (see [1] for more information).
Please include this file in /lib/systemd/system/ in the next upload of this
package.
I also sent this file upstream, so hopefully it w
