I just tried it in Firefox disabled... the "this plugin is disabled"
message flashes for half a second, replaced by "need to upgrade" which I
suppose is from YouTube

It is very much a bug.
If somehow something is disabled (who knows how?), there is no mention that it
is
disabled. Instead one is told to download a new version, unlike Firefox.
