Could you provide me an example of photo that makes josm crash? Did you
try to load the same photo using upstream version? You can find it here:

I try to go file, load and select jpeg images from my android device, which
is mounted. I have a track already loaded, and a map of the area is already
displayed on the screen.
JOSM crashed and asked me to send a bug - so here it is.
