I think it is the parameter -dvd-compat, it's a safe option for DVD5 but
breaks at 50% of the write for a DVD9
But i have not debugged k3b, I have done some tests burning with
growisofs from shell and with or without the -dvd-compat option.

In the image error.png attached there is another common problem: k3b
doesn't recognize the speed allowed (retrieved by dvd+rw-mediainfo, I
suppose) and it set a a speed who is always higher than the c
Brasero is also able to write the disk.
