Well the situation is still the same -- at least by looking at the

ITK sources contain (among others) a fork/convenience copy of the NIfTI
libaries, and the package builds it as libitkniftiio and libitkznz. This
copy is quite outdated in comparsion to the version shipped in the
libnifti1 Debian packa
