After discussing this issue with upstream it looks like the right
fix will be more intrusive than previously thought, so I just
removed the offending patch for now.

Ugh, sorry about that. It's caused by a patch I picked from CVS, and
it doesn't happen for me because my shell is zsh. I guess you're
using bash and it doesn't reset the
