As far as I understand it, the wacom driver reports the different pens by the
serial number of the pen. They still report through the STYLUS and ERASER
devices. I do not know what tools can demonstrate the change of the pen.
As long as the art pen gives you basic functionality, I'd suggest check

I have a Wacom Intuos3 tablet, to which I recently added an artpen, in addition
to the normal pen. It is not recognized as a new device, and xsetwacom lists
only the ERASER, CURSOR, PAD, and one STYLUS.
