please note that the proposed patch contains a typo bug - the added line
should read:
+ confflags += --enable-altivec=no
Next time I have access to my G4, I can compile with that and send the
result to Gunther Furtado (with G3 for testing) to see if the problem is
gone. (Someone else can do

works. I have done the following to temporarily correct it.
Please move this bug to libsdl1.2debian
