Check whether $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS is set in the session you are
executing akonadictl in.
Also, it might be a good idea not to run a full KDE session as root.

does this bug still happen with akonadi 1.2.1?
If yes, how and when exactly does this occur?
I looked at bugs.kde.org but did not find any failling relationship with dbus
and akonadi.
