The issue you raise is valid.
As you said, the patch you give may sleep 10 seconds in the write,
causing the whole proxy to stop processing messages from servers and
clients. I'm not too comfortable with this.
I'll bake a patch that deals with an outgoing buffer to get rid of this
bug once an
