I've changed laptops like 5 times since then.
Nowadays I run X full-time because it got faster and fb didn't.
If I find time I'll test it, but I don't know when that will be.

When I ran "netsurf google.com" as root on vt2, the screen went
completely black. I managed to (blindly) switch to vt3, log in as
root, and run "halt" to reboot my system. I didn't think to try
"killall netsurf" until it was too late.
