If you're looking for a specifically-named binary, you could use apt-file (included in the apt-file package): $ apt-file search srm | grep bin aboot-cross: /usr/bin/srmbootfat pvm-examples: /usr/bin/srm.pvm secure-delete: /usr/bin/srm Also, you can use the package file search at http://packages.
