I can confirm that adding SSHMenu to the GNOME panel using the Debian packages does not work, at least in current sid. However, a bit of investigation reveals that this issue is not exclusive to SSHMenu; Ruby-GNOME panel applets currently do not work at all. eg: $ /usr/share/doc/libpanel-applet2-
