Not sure if it helps or not but jamvm seems to build fine with both
openjdk-6-jdk and gcj.

jikes is orphaned, unmaintained, and buggy and therefore we are trying
to remove it from the archive. jamvm currently build-depends on
jikes but seems to build and run fine without it. Could you please
remove the build dependency on jike
