I would also like to request that this is patched in lenny. I think
the use of virtio will be common as kvm is used more, and this bug is
critical for normal use.

I was bitten by this highly annoying bug too and also like to request to include
its fix (as it is very simple) in 5.0.1, as Jeroen has shown.
Guido, please consider to nominate this fix for 5.0.1 (and/or provide backports
of more recent kvm packages).
