I had this same problem after upgrading to lenny.
I tried reinstalling linux-image-2.6.26-1-686 and cryptsetup, but to no
avail. However, after noticing
that /etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/ contained no
files what so ever i tried:
sudo aptitude --with-recommends -f reinstall lvm2
