Breaking network connections during upgrades makes systems unreachable -
remember, not everybody has access to the virtual console via VC. It also
breaks any way to update systems automatically and you have to use the console.

when upgrading open-vm-tools, it unload the network drivers
(/etc/init.d/open-vm-tools stop). if you are connected to remote
server with ssh, it's a major problem.
could the script never unload the network driver unless it's called
from init 0 or init 6.
