Quick update: I didn't get a chance to build a recent GNU
Classpath-based runtime, but one I have lying around from the middle of
last year seems to run your test app against JFreeChart 1.0.9 just
fine. This suggests that the problem is likely to be a regression in
GNU Classpath...I'm short o

Unfortunately I didn't test the last couple of JFreeChart releases
against GNU Classpath. I'll try to do that this week and see if I can
spot the problem. I'd be surprised if it is anything major.
