It appears that pngcrush currently segfaults on *most* invalid
command-line arguments. This is because it does not systematically
check its command-line arguments.
I think a separate function to handle command-line processing is in

I cannot reproduce it here.
Can you send us (or put somewhere) the PNG files that you are using, please?
