I've experienced same crashes:
libxml2/2.6.30.dfsg-1 + evolution -> intermittent crashes when reading emails
libxml2/2.6.30.dfsg-1 + azureus + sun-java5-jre|sun-java6-jre ->
always crashes on startup
libxml2/2.6.30.dfsg-1 + azureus + java-gcj-compat/1.0.76-2 -> doesn't crash
libxml2/2.6.29.dfsg-1

I can confirm the reported problem #439843.
Downgrading libxml2 fixed it for me.
CC: evolution maintainers so they know about this problem if they got
bug reports about this.
