Thank you very much for clearing this up. I do not know if this is
advised, however I was able to get around this bug, though in an
unorthodox manner. Since I only need/use the condensed version of one
particular font, I simply mv to
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu

Two possible causes:
* you're using an old DejaVu version (< 2.9)
* you're not using the newest fontconfig (2.4.2).

I am using sid lastest as of right now. I have installed ttf-dejavu.
I have added the FontPath to xorg.con
