I guess this hang while switching between X and a matroxfb console
hasn't been fixed yet, right? Even with mga driver 1.4.6 (currently in
unstable)?
I am not very surprised to see some conflicts between matroxfb and the X
server, some other drivers had similar problems in the past. There are
I can independently confirm the same problem with the 2.6.18 kernel
as packaged in "testing" - works fine with text console, fails with
matroxfb exactly as described in the bug report (hang and lots of
these "mga_dma_* called without lock held" messages).

I have no recent kernel yet to reproduce it with such. However, the fact
that etch ships no 2.4 kernels does IMHO not
