Thanks, it seems as if it may be bug#531734, though it is not obvious to me why.
Anyway, I will see if it solves the problem when gnome-terminal (2.26.2-2)
gets into testing.

What problem are you having, exactly? I believe you may be hitting a
specific issue in gnome-terminal, so take a look at the bug list for
gnome-terminal before reopening this one, I guess.

This problem comes and goes and it is back again. Version 2.0.2-b1 in squeeze.
